Short Notice, Boys Locker Clean Out Monday
Sorry for the short notice, but I was asked if we could have the Boys get all of their stuff out of their lockers for skiing out tomorrow, Monday, after school. We will need to keep the locks on the lockers, just empty the contents. If there are any items left, I will clean them out and keep the contents in the ski room.
Thanks

State Meet
Congratulations to Abby Ellenbecker and Josh Thoen as they helped end the the 2019-2020 Nordic Season competing in yesterdays State Nordic Meet! As Abby was competing in her 4th State, this was Josh's first. Both were able to show their strengths in classic and their endurance levels as they both moved up after the first races, Abby moving from 65th to 47th and Josh moving up from 94th to 80th out of 160 skiers! It was a solid overall day despite the multiple delays and the colder weather and a good way to end the season!
For anyone that is wanting to take their skis home for the next couple of weeks while we have the snow and your skis are in the ski room, please let me know and we can set up a time for them to pick them up. Also, we will not turn our uniforms in for a couple of weeks as well in case there are a few that want to do a race or two, which there are plenty still available to compete in.
Thanks for the support,
Denny

The Last Week
Here we are, already at the last week of the season. Always amazing how fast the season goes. But, here is what our schedule for the week is:
Monday, Pastry Relays at Greenhaven. Bus will leave by 3:20. First skiers out will be at about 4:00. This is a fun costume event, so we are hoping to have a lot of excitement and laughter!
Tuesday, our last practice. Bus to Bunker will leave by 3:25, skate skiing.
Wednesday and Thursday: Charlie Banks Relays on Wednesday, State Meet on Thursday. Abby and Josh as well as those we invited for the Relays will be leaving on Wednesday at 8:00am. We will go over everything with those going on Tuesday. As of right now, temps look to be rather cold on Thursday, so we will be keeping an eye on the weather and hope that we are able to keep the current schedule. If the State High School League makes any changes, I will let you know as soon as I hear.
Thanks and if there are any questions, please let me know. I will be sending out info on the Banquet, which is Feb 27th, tomorrow evening.

Lakeville Results
Our Individual results are now posted on the right side of the blog. Once the Overall results are sent to us I will add those as well.
A brisk morning, colder than we have been used to, but a bright sun, made for a fun day of skiing and it was fun to see our skiers go out and have a solid day racing.
I challenging course in spots became more challenging as the day went on. Even with a few crashes, everyone finished having skied hard and smiling!
Top finishers on the day for the Boys went to Aaron Casey, 1st in the 9th grade race, with Peyton Martinek close behind in 2nd. Ryan Powley with a 1st place finish in the 10th grade race, while Jaxon Lahner fought hard to gain a 6th place finish in the 11th grade race.
Top finishers on the Girls side went to Ilsa Hoaglund earning 4th place in the 11th grade race with sister Zoe close behind taking 6th place. Ava Kehr gained a 5th place finish in the 10th grade with Julia Dutton just 10 seconds behind to take 6th!
Great work to everyone!! Next up is the non-competitive, but always fun Pastry Relays on Monday at Greenhaven Golf Course. First skiers will start around 4:00.
Thanks to those that came out to support the skiers this morning!! The sun did feel nice even when it was colder!

Section 5 Meet Results
Results from today's Section 5 Meet are now posted on the right side of the blog.
Congratulations to Abby Ellenbecker for qualifying for the State Meet for the 4th time, becoming just the second female in Cardinal Nordic history to qualify for her 4th State. Abby was able to ski to a 2nd place overall finish to help the Girls team finish in an improved 7th overall place. Lilah Gilyard had another solid day as well as she earned 19th overall in the Girls Pursuit.
Congratulations to Josh Thoen as well for qualifying for his first State Meet as he took 12th overall and helped the Boys to a 3rd place finish. Jared Heida moved up to 23rd place and Noah Christiansen moved up to 25th to help the Boys with one of their best performances at Sections in a number of years.
This was by far our best day on the season and the skiers improved in all aspects of their racing. It is fun as a coaching staff to watch the improvements from week to week as well as the determination that they all had to finish their races! It's happy to be able to see skiers move onto the State Meet and show the others on the team that it is possible as well as give them examples of what they need to do to move to the next level.
Next up is the Lakeville JV/Jr High on Saturday and then we will be on to the State Meet next Thursday at Giants Ridge.
Thanks to all of the parents and fans that made the trek out for a beautiful day and a beautiful day of skiing!
