Gathering Today

Just a reminder that our End of Season Gathering is today with the skiers playing games starting at 4:30, dessert set up at 5:15ish and dessert serving at 5:30 or when they are ready.  We will hope to start the awards portion at about 5:45 so that we can have time to get through the awards.

You can have two options to get to the back of the school, through Door 1 and walking to the back of the school and out the cafeteria doors or you can park in the main lot between the middle school and high school and walk outside between the two schools to the baseball field and patio out back.

Skiers, please remember to bring your ski boots and a pair of gloves.

Weather looks nice, but bring a jacket for if it's a little chilly.

Thanks
Denny

Update on End of Season Gathering

Due to the predicted weather for Monday and early next week, we are moving the End of Year Gathering to Thursday, March 25th.  We will still be at Coon Rapids High School, using the back patio and the fields out back of the school, but we are going to bump the time out a little.  We would like for the skiers to be there by 4:30, and then awards would be at 5:45ish.  For those that would like to help with set up for the desserts, and for those that want to hang out and watch the skiers have some fun, we would have set up start at about 5:15. We will using Door 1 (old main entrance), and then you will walk straight back to the patio.  Masks will be required and for those that would like to, bring your own lawn chairs

Lastly, for the skiers, bring a pair of your ski boots and gloves for one of the activities we will be doing!!

Thanks,
Denny

Ski Sales & Summer Training Option

As the seasons change and now that the ski season is done, it is time for the end of year sales at the local ski shops.  For anyone that is looking for some new skis, poles, boots, or even clothing for next year, now is the first chance to start looking.  A lot of the shops will have progressive sales, where the later you wait the more % you could get off, however, this could mean the fewer options to chose from too.  But, right now Gear West in Long Lake and Pioneer Midwest in Osseo have started their sales.  You can check them out online (gearwest.com and pioneermidwest.com) to see what is currently on sale as well as start to get ideas on what to get.  One other thing for those that have their own skis that they should look into at both of these shops, is to get your skis stone ground.  It is an extra expense, but it is something that helps refresh the base of the skis as well as get out little nicks and scratches that may have happened.

Lastly, for anyone that is looking for extra Ski specific training for the summer, the Minneapolis Ski Club is a solid option that our skiers have been using for over 20 years.  They have options for the number of days a week to do training, so check out their website as well if there is interest: http://mscnordic.com/  We as a team will be offering summer practices again as well.  We will probably go with afternoons on Tue and Thur in June and July again, but add some more Saturday workouts as well where we will go places to get more intense or challenging workouts in.  We will also be working with those that are wanting to get ready for the Cross Country Running season to make sure that they are getting their running training in as well as make sure they are not over doing anything.  Myself and those that are in both sports will work on a plan for when those practices will be held.

If you have any questions on any of this, please let me know,
Thanks
Denny

End of Season Gathering

2021 Nordic Ski End of Season Gathering

Skiers and Parents:

Here is some information for the End of Season Nordic Ski Gathering, as we look forward to this opportunity to look back at the season and recognize the athletes and the work they have done.

This is going to be a very relaxed and informal gathering, where it is not needed for everyone to show up at the start if they are not able to.
Pending weather, we will be outside, but masks and social distancing will need to be followed.

Date: Monday, March 22nd, 2021

Location: Coon Rapids High School Back Patio
(Enter through Door 1, old main door, and walk straight back to the Cafeteria and out onto the patio)

Time: 4:00 start time for skiers to play games and gather, with prizes for the winners. Parents can arrive at this time as well to mingle.

5:15 Awards

What to bring: This is going to be a Dessert Gathering, sort of an icing on top of all that the skiers have done this year. So, bring your favorite dessert or cookies to share with everyone.

We would also like for the skiers to bring yard games and everyone bring their own lawn chairs.

Silverware and plates will be provided

Please account for the size of the team. We have 35 members on the team this year, and four coaches.

If there are any questions in regards to this, please let me know,

End of Season

With the weather we’ve had for the past week plus, our season is coming to a quick end. After discussing it with the coaches, today, Friday, will be our last organized practice as a team. I will be still having practice with the two state entrants, but we are hoping to go early in the morning at Elm to get on a better conditions.

We still would like for everyone to get out and ski some more over the weekend as well as the beginning of next week, so we will not collect skis and uniforms until Wednesday after school. We will need for all of the school skis to be cleaned and storage wax applied, so it will take a little time and we want everyone to take care of the skis they used this year. Uniforms and team bibs should be cleaned (air dry both please) and they will be handed in at that time as well.

Lastly, the end of season gathering will be Monday, March 22nd. We are still finalizing all of the details and will have that for everyone on Wednesday.

Thanks to all of the fun, all of the support, and all of the hard work!! It’s been a great season and we will have some more fun to end things today!!

Section Results

Congratulations to Aaron C and Lilah G for qualifying today for the State Nordic Ski Meet to be held next Thursday for Girls and Friday for Boys at Giants Ridge!! Aaron finished 10th overall in the Boys race and Lilah finished in 5th overall in the Girls race!

Not too many times though can one say they may have gotten too much sun at Nordic Ski race, but heat definitely played a factor in today's races at Theo Wirth and conditions were getting wetter and softer as the day went on.  The Boys team finished in 6th out of 12 teams and the Girls finished 8th out of 12 teams.  But much like last week, there was nothing as a coaching staff that we didn't feel good about.  The little things that we needed to work on after last weeks Conference Meet they all did today and just looked overall better.  There was a lot of hard work and a lot of heart that everyone of the Cardinal skiers put in, not to mention the positive vibes that went with the sunny day!  It was fun day and we are glad that we are able to get two moving on so that we can keep skiing and enjoying what is left of this winter.

Meet Results can be found here: https://www.mtecresults.com/event/show/3739/2021_MSHSL_State_Section_5_Cross_Country_Ski_Championships and I will also have a link on the side of the blog later today or tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, we will be doing team voting and a school district mandated survey before practice.  All skiers should be at the school between 3:30 and 3:40 to do both of these before we leave. We will be going to Elm Creek on both Thursday and Friday, bus leaving at 4:00 and skiing from 4:30 to about 5:30 each day.

Thanks to all of the parents and fans that were able to enjoy the sunny day with us!!
